As a US public charity, CAF America is able to accept funds from American donors who can then recommend that CAF America use those funds to support foreign charitable organizations.

''Validation'' CAF America conducts due diligence reviews for each recommended organization, or, CAF America advises strategies and validated organizations that match a donor's philanthropic goals. ''Gift'' Donors make a gift to CAF America or establish a fund for ongoing grant management. ''Grants'' CAF America makes grants to eligible charitable organizations and monitors their operations. ''Impact'' Grant recipients are required to submit annual reports detailing how funds were used.
